How do I create a reading list in the Canvas?
Answer
After you have enabled the Reading List function in Canvas you are ready to create a reading list. To create a new reading list from scratch:
1. Click Reading List in the navigation menu.
2. Under Create a new reading list from scratch click Create new list.
- You can also copy an existing reading list through Select existing list. See the section Create Reading List from an Existing List for instructions.
3. By default, your new reading list will have the same title as the course. You may rename it if you wish and optionally enter a description. Then click Create.
4. Choose how to organize your list with sections. You can Add/Modify sections in a template at any time.
- Default to create a blank reading list with no pre-made sections. If you’re unsure, select this one. You can always modify it later.
- Weeks to divide readings for each week of instruction. You can edit, add, or delete sections as needed.
5. If you are satisfied with your template and sections, you can begin adding items to your Reading List.
Create Reading List from an Existing List
You can roll over an existing reading list from another Canvas course. To re-use a reading list:
1. Under Create list from an existing list click Select existing list.
2. You can search My lists or All lists.
3. Once you've selected the course you'd like to re-use, click Duplicate list.
- You can make changes to a Reading List after it’s been duplicated.
4. Confirm the details for the List name and change any Advanced Settings you may want. If you have no changes to make or are satisfied with your changes, click Create list.
- While Reading List can recalculate or reset certain settings during roll over, we advise reviewing your own Reading List to verify that linked resources are still available.
Please note: If you roll over a Reading List, please notify the library so we can confirm all resources are accessible.
